Tikkie API Use Case: Pay for parking with a Tikkie

Don’t feel like registering your details in a parking app? Or maybe you already use a parking app but forget to stop your parking sessions? Instapark, a new and intuitive parking app, is the answer. All you have to do is download the app. You don’t need to register, and it’s easy to pay the parking fee with a Tikkie right from the app. You only pay for the time that you’ve actually parked, and nothing more!

A parking app for individuals

Developer and inventor, Ingmar Bakermans, enthusiastically explains, “Instapark, an initiative of Develobi B.V., is designed to make parking with an app easier and faster. At the moment, the market is focused primarily on business users who have to register and pay at the end of each month by direct debit. So, I thought to myself: hang on a second, what if we made things much easier for individuals? People are fed up with having to register for different kinds of services. Also, these days, anyone can pay through iDEAL. That’s how a colleague and I came up with the idea for Instapark.”

Finding the cheapest parking space

“Our idea is to shake up the market for parking and to get rid of all the hurdles with a simple app: Instapark. You use an in-app map to find the nearest parking space for the best price. For example, in a city like Amsterdam, it makes a big difference in which canal-side space you park,” says Ingmar. “Better yet, you can quickly see in advance how much it’ll set you back. That’s not something you’ll find in any other parking app. You can check where you’re going to park from the comfort of your home, so there won’t be any surprises.”

Always the right amount

Nice features, for sure — but just how does the app work? “All you do is download the app. You don’t have to register or connect an account. When you park somewhere, you choose the parking zone, put in your car’s registration number, and decide how long you want to park for. You pay the parking fee directly using a Tikkie. If you come back earlier than you planned, you can get a refund. All you have to do is tap ‘Stop’, and the money is transferred to your current account. If you park for longer than you had planned, you’ll get a notification, and you can extend your parking session remotely. For each parking transaction, you pay a €0.15 fee, which is less than other parking apps.”

Tikkie: It’s a no-brainer

“We knew right away that we wanted payments to go through Tikkie. It suits us perfectly in terms of our target group and its branding. The Tikkie API is easy to integrate, and if you run into any issues or have questions, you have quick and easy access to support. A really important and refreshing feature is that Tikkie lets you personalize your experience — for instance, the name of the payee and the gif on the “Thank-you” page. In the pilot we ran, our users felt it was quite natural to use a Tikkie for payments. It’s just an established term for payments and payment requests.”
