Migrate to version 2 of Payment Initiation (PSD2) API before July 1st 2026

We would like to draw your attention to an important change to the Payment Initiation (PSD2) API. A new version of this API (version 2) is available, and all clients are required to migrate within the defined timeline to ensure uninterrupted service.

While we have previously shared information about this migration through email communications, we want to ensure that all Developer Portal users are aware of the change and have the information they need to act in time.

Why a new version?

Version 2 of the Payment Initiation (PSD2) API has been developed based on client feedback, regulatory requirements, and evolving market standards. The new version introduces several functional and technical improvements designed to make payment processing more robust, efficient, and future‑proof.

By migrating to version 2, you benefit from:

  • Instant payment processing with improved handling
  • A timestamp of receipt by the beneficiary, offering greater transparency
  • Enhanced JSON formatting, aligned with the Berlin Standard
  • Support for both SEPA and non‑SEPA payments
  • Better alignment with current market and regulatory practices

These changes help ensure a consistent and scalable integration experience across the ecosystem.

Migration timeline

The current version of the API (version 1) will remain available only for a limited time. All clients must complete their migration to version 2 no later than 1 July 2026. After this date, version 1 will be discontinued and will no longer be supported. Migrating ahead of the deadline will help you avoid last‑minute issues and ensure continuity of your payment services.

How to get started

To support a smooth migration, all required resources are available on the ABN AMRO Developer Portal, including:

  • Updated documentation for version 2
  • Access to the Sandbox environment for testing
  • Support via the portal’s ticketing system if you need assistance

We strongly recommend starting your migration as soon as possible so you can validate your integration well ahead of the deadline.
