Who has access

Everyone has access to test the full functionality of the API in the Sandbox. For now, the Business Account Notification API remains in early access, meaning only a select group of clients will have access to production. For access or questions about future development, please contact us.

Business Account Notification API explained

The Business Account Notification API enables ABN AMRO commercial clients to receive subscription-based notifications using webhooks. Webhooks are HTTPS messages which get pushed directly to a system of your choosing. It offers condition-based notifications that help you modernize the way you do finance in various ways. For instance, they enable you to automate your cash management processes by triggering a notification when a specific payment is received or when your balance has crossed a certain amount. The events that trigger these notifications are defined by you. You can add, change, and remove the defined conditions easily. The conditions in scope of this API are; amounts (exact/smaller than/greater than/between), dates (specific/from/range), transaction types (debit/credit/both), descriptions (remittance) and book balance (over/under). So, the API makes it possible to create tailor-made notifications for your ABN AMRO business account. Allowing you to automate both your technical and operational processes, and respond instantly to events happening on the account.

What to expect from the Sandbox

Experimenting in a Sandbox environment has multiple advantages. You can try out the API’s functionalities, which makes it easier to design your use-case and discover how the API fits in your business case. For instance, familiarize yourself with the possible conditions to receive notifications by creating subscriptions (specific condition sets that are stored at ABN AMRO). Next to that, you can experiment with the relationship between the subscriptions and transactions on your ABN AMRO business account.

The Sandbox environment has extra functionality that allows simulating mock transactions. This functionality makes it possible to see what notifications your transactions would trigger. Within the Sandbox, it is only possible to create notifications on mocked transactions because the environment is not connected to an ABN AMRO payment engine. Creating subscriptions, however, is the same as production. Next to that, due to security reasons, the simulated API responses are slightly different from the ones in production. Unlike in production, in the Sandbox, no notifications are sent when the transaction matches. Instead, the response from the sandbox lets you know immediately if the mocked transaction would have triggered a notification with a true or false statement. In addition to this, the response from the Sandbox features a cURL command to send the would-be notification from and to your own system. This makes it possible to test production like notification behavior.
